A stellate ganglion block (SGB) is an injection of local anesthetic into a bundle of nerves in the neck called the stellate ganglion. These nerves are part of the body’s “fight-or-flight” system. By temporarily blocking them, SGB can help reset an overactive stress response and relieve symptoms tied to trauma, anxiety, or certain types of pain.

Under ultrasound guidance, a small amount of anesthetic is injected near the stellate ganglion. The procedure is quick, typically taking less than 30 minutes, and is performed by an experienced medical provider. Many patients experience a noticeable sense of calm or symptom relief shortly after treatment.
